Yay Friday night!! I had a nice Friday, I hope everyone else did too 🙂

After breakfast this morning, I was on the phone with my best friend when she mentioned that Starbucks was sampling their new Refresher drinks today from 12 – 3. As I’ve stated before, I cannot stand the taste of coffee. It’s just bitter and gross to me. But she was convinced I would like these, so I took her up on it.

About 2:30 I collected Eric and we headed down to Starbucks at Masonville Mall. They have a Lime flavour and a Very Berry Hibiscus flavour in the tall size (absolutely free) so we grabbed one in each flavour.

(Ignore the catastrophe that is my hair. Just out of the shower and thrown into humidity is not pretty).

If you haven’t tried one of these yet, Refreshers are drinks made from fruit juice and green tea coffee extract. They promise all the boost of coffee (although they don’t have quite as much caffeine as coffee does) without any coffee flavour. The berry option is made with blackberry and hibiscus juices with pieces of blackberry thrown in, while the lime option has lime, citrus, cucumber and mint flavours with lime slices.

My verdict? Refreshers is the appropriate name for them – super refreshing!

The lime version tasted like a virgin mojito (as my bbf explained to me on the phone, which I 100% agreed with) and weighs in at 40 calories and 9 grams of sugar for a tall size.

The Berry option tasted juicy and sweet – much sweeter than the lime, which I prefer. For a tall size, it had 60 calories and 11 grams of sugar.

Whenever I’ve been  to Starbucks in the past (and by that, I mean the 5 or so times I’m been willing to pay their outrageous prices) my usual order has been a Chai Tea Latte with nonfat milk. Considering that that option has 32 grams of sugar, I think I may be changing my usual order!

We took our drinks and wandered around the mall for a little while. London just put a new Apple store – the first one the city has.

Eric and I were laughing at the sheer number of blue shirts – I feel like they just employed half the city!

Lunch

Today’s lunch was a good one.

A big salad with romaine, carrots, tomato, and chicken with a honey dijon yogurt dressing. On the side, I had a bag of BBQ Popchips and guacamole (the last of the batch). BBQ and guacamole – an amazing combination! But I mean, I could pair guacamole with an old shoe and I’d still love it. 🙂

Dinner

For dinner tonight, my lovely future MIL offered to treat Eric and I to dinner at the Kelsey’s down the road.

The beautiful Nadine and I!

We decided to go the family style route – order a bunch of appetizers and share them for dinner. One of my favourite ways to eat!

To drink, I ordered a Berry Good Time.

I just switched the 7Up for Diet Sprite.

This was so yummy! It tasted like a very sweet, fruity wine – how I prefer my wines anyways!

Then it was time for the food.

Four Cheese Spinach Dip

This is definitely the most popular appetizer at the restaurant – cheese, spinach, red peppers and onion, served with baked pita triangles.

LOOK AT ALL THE CHEESE.

I can never handle more than a few bites of the stuff – so rich and cheesy.

Feta Bruschetta Flatbread

Baked flatbread topped with pesto, tomatoes, fresh basil and feta cheese. I completely dominated this! I absolutely love bruschetta – it just tastes like summer to me. This one had the perfect balance of tomatoes and basil, without being too soggy or oily from the pesto. I would just order this as a meal all to myself next time.

Caesar Salad

The salad was just kinda eh. But to be honest, I’ve yet to see a chain restaurant make a well done Caesar. The dressing was watery and a little too citrusy.

Butternut Squash Soup

I was all over this as well. Butternut squash is my favourite kind of soup, even in the heat of summer. While this wasn’t the best one I’ve ever had, I still enjoyed it thoroughly.

Honey Garlic Chicken Wings with Ranch Dipping Sauce

These were definitely a boyfriend indulgence. I had two (without the sauce, I’ve never been a fan of dipping sauce with wings) and they were pretty crispy and sweet.

Although I mainly focused on the soup and the flatbread, I had little bits of everything and left the restaurant completely stuffed.

Thanks Nadine for the lovely dinner!

Now, we’re back at home and the three of us are preparing to watch some Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (the American version) so I will bid you goodnight!
