Yes, I absolutely went there. Smile

But before I get to that…

I had a long day yesterday! I had a meeting in the morning, then that long presentation during my afternoon class. I don’t think it went too bad, but yea…I don’t do presentations well. I get nervous, lose my place, trip over my words…definitely one of those life skills I need to work on.

Fortunately, when I got home dinner was already made for me thanks to this lovely thing:

The slow cooker I got for my birthday! I finally broke it out.

When I was making my meal plan for the week, I noticed that pork side ribs were on sale at the grocery store. Ribs are Eric’s favourite (next to poutine, of course) so I was going for major girlfriend points.

In the morning, I rubbed the ribs with salt, pepper, roasted garlic, chile powder and cumin.

I tossed it in the slow cooker with a sliced onion and set it to low. I let it cook at home while I went about my day.

After about 7 1/2 hours, I dipped the ribs in BBQ sauce, and threw them back in for another hour.

I’m not a huge rib fan (I could take them or leave them, really) but these were so good. Flavourful and absolutely fall-off-the-bone.

Served with a simple green salad on the side. Dinner was on the small side because I was saving room:

Seemed like a froyo night to me (and yes, I add so many toppings you can’t see the actual yogurt underneath). Yogurty’s had had Pumpkin Spice flavour available for a while, so I wanted to grab it while it was still there.

So this had:

  • a mix of Pumpkin Spice and Banana Split froyo
  • Reese’s Pieces
  • cheesecake bites
  • “fun bits” (kinda like nerds, or just really big sprinkles)
  • sprinkles (no surprise there)
  • Cinnamon Toast Crunch
  • yogurt-covered raisins
  • a few maraschino cherries
  • and Ghirardelli chocolate syrup (quite possibly this chocolate-lover’s favourite part. So good)

It made me happy. Smile Although, I was slightly depressed that they didn’t have iced animal crackers anymore – those things were amazing.

And then I came home and filmed this little gem!

Sloane and Alex recently did accent VLOGS – I remember seeing them floating around the blogosphere a year or two ago, and I remember thinking they were so interesting. So when they made a reappearance, of course I had to participate.

Here’s the list of words/questions:

Here is a list of words you should pronounce:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

And the list of questions you should answer:
1. What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
2. What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
3. What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
4. What do you call gym shoes?
5. What do you say to address a group of people?
6. What do you call the kind of spider (or spider-like creature) that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
7. What do you call your grandparents?
8. What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
9. What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
10. What is the thing you change the TV channel with?
*Note: Make sure to include where you are from home as well.

Enjoy!

If you guys do one of these, link me up! I love being able to put a voice to a picture. Smile

<—So how about it…Where should I go in Chicago? More importantly, what should I buy from Trader Joe’s?

<—Do I have a Canadian accent?

  1. I don’t think you have much of an accent. Maybe canadians don’t have that strong of an accent? But DEFINITELY go to Trader Joe’s… beware of the cookie butter. Once you try it, you’ll never be able to resist eating the whole jar 🙂

  2. I have never made ribs, but this sounds delicious! I’m getting into slow cooker mode, so this is perfect!

  3. this made my day… scratch that my week. I have been dying for you to a vlog. You sound so differently than I thought! But cuter than ever. I am also jealous of that froyo place, like freaking jealous. Trader joe’s for the win! win win win.

  4. Um wow, you made your own ribs?! So impressed right now. They look incredible! As does that froyo. I have not been craving it lately b/c I feel like I am always cold, but I think if someone brought me some in a warm heated environment I wouldn’t complain 😉

  5. Mmm. Crock pot! I’m super impressed you made your own ribs. You are adorable!! Love your vlog. Also I just got your e-mail! it ended up in my junk mail? So did you still want me to guest post? Let me know darling, and so sorry I didn’t get back sooner:( Well, I guess you don’t have an accent to me, since I’m Canadian too ha ha.

  6. I need to try this VLOG to ease into it. I’m so nervous about my voice on camera! Totally irrational…

  7. You do not sound like you have an accent at all! I’m a TJ’s junkie, enjoy! As for suggestions — guacamole with greek yogurt (obv. you can’t take on the plane but you can enjoy there!), 21 Seasoning Salute, super cheap almond flour & chia seeds, dark chocolate with caramel & sea salt (amazing), dark chocolate covered edamame, I could go on & on but I’ll stop for now. Have fun!

    • We’re actually driving (8 hours, ugh) so I will absolutely pick up some of that guacamole – sounds amazing! And definitely intrigued by dark chocolate edamame…all going on the list for sure! Thanks for the suggestions ❤

  8. I heard the canadian “out”, but that is only I am a fellow canuck living in the US i think

  9. Yes! It IS pop! Mwahha! Have an awesome time in Chicago, girlie! Ugh I’m so jealous that you get to go to TJ’s! I’ve been to Whole Foods, but never actually managed to get into TJ’s. I wish I could give you some advice when it came to what to do or what to buy, but I’m a noobie on both fronts so I have no idea. And I still have to get back to your e-mail about guest posters! Eeep! Need to get on that…

    • Hehe absolutely – no coke or soda here (the coke thing always confused me. If you order a root beer, is it still a coke?)

And would love for you to get back to me on the guest posting! You know how much I love your blog so having a piece of that on mine would be fabulous. 🙂

  10. Hehehe I LOVE THESE!!!!!!! Ahh I’m so glad you did it! You don’t sound Canadian at all except for when you say “out” but that’s not even part of the game. I didn’t know what the rainy-sunshine one was either, but I’ve watched several other people’s and they say “sun shower”. Who knew?
I’m excited to guest post for you! I’ll have mine sent by the end of the weekend. Is that okay? And at Trader Joe’s: BUY ALL THE THINGS!

But seriously, you can’t go wrong. If they still have pumpkin cream cheese get that (on second thought, I’m not so sure that will travel well). Other than that, their chia seeds are really cheap, the zesty nacho kale chips are fabulous, and any dip, dressing, sauce, etc. you literally can’t go wrong.
    xoxo

    • Hehe I’m glad you like it! I love how I say “out” Canadian…that’s too funny.

I’m excited to get your guest post! And no worries, as long as I have it by Monday we’re good to go.

I plan on bring a cooler/freezer bag of sorts (and we’re driving) so if I can find pumpkin cream cheese I will be ALL over that. And nacho kale chips! I’ve never tried them before, so I’m definitely intrigued.

  11. Hey Sam!
I’ve been following your blog for a bit and thought I’d finally comment–as you’re coming to my hometown this weekend! Your blog is great! I love how you put so much of your own personality into it. Also–I wanted to add–your studies in Criminology sound really interesting. I actually finished law school recently and all of my courses in Criminal Law/ Criminal Procedure I found most interesting. I guess the brain of seemingly evil people can be fascinating.
    Ok–1. I heard a slight Canadian accent!
    2. When you’re here–and if it’s not too cold take a stroll around Millennium Park downtown in the loop. It’s really pretty with different sculptures. The famous big bean sculpture is there–which I’m sure you’ve seen. Also just strolling along the lake is really nice with the leaves changing colors.
Definitely go shopping along Michigan Ave.
Also maybe try visiting one of Chi-town’s more funky neighborhoods rather than just the touristy donwtown area. I live in Lakeview which is close to Wrigley Field and it’s a neighborhood with lots of cute coffee shops, sushi places and bars.

Oh–one more thing–please visit The Art Institute–it’s amazing. They have a wonderful collection of Art from many different eras-and their photography is also great.
I hope you have fun hear! I’ll be looking forward to your recap.

    Yaara

    • Thanks for commenting Yaara!
And I love what I study – I actually just put forward an idea for my MA thesis that I’m super excited about – I’ll have to talk about it on a post in the future sometime!

Really need to see the bean sculpture! And I’m hoping to hit up the Art Institute as well – thanks so much for the recommendations 😀

  12. I love how we’re from the same province (and I even lived in London for a bit!) but said SO many of those words differently and had very different answers!! Commonalities = how we said pyjamas with a weird kind of drawl I didn’t notice that I had until I watched mine over, and not knowing what those weird curling bugs are called!! (I’ve made it my new life goal to figure it out. 😉 haha)
