MIMM: Date Night & An Honourary Fur Baby.

Yup, it’s Monday.

Might as well make it a marvelous one, shall we? Winking smile

Thanks to the lovely Diva herself for hosting such a positive linkup each and every week!

So, I’ve got some marvelous highlights from my weekend. It was definitely quiet (especially compared to the business of last weekend) but I find that I definitely appreciate that once in a while.

Friday Highlights

Friday morning soon after I got out of bed, this handsome devil got dropped off.

DSCF4833

This is Leon, who is staying with Eric and I this week. So, I get my very own toy poodle to play with for a little while! Smile with tongue out We’re definitely planning on getting a dog in the (hopefully near) future, so I’m always happy to get some practice in with Leon.

DSCF4838

He’s such a cutie. Although he is in desperate need of a trim. Boy’s looking pretty shaggy.

The other highlight from Friday was the dinner I put together.

DSCF4809

That would be Skinnytaste’s Cheeseburger Casserole. While I’m pretty sure it was the addition of pickles that sold me, that was a damn tasty dinner.

DSCF4810

It’s a cheeseburger. But it’s a casserole. This is like what Hamburger Helper wishes it could be (because it is delicious and Hamburger Helper is not). So yea. you should make this.

Saturday Highlights

Shoes!!!

DSCF4830

My old pair of Nike crosstrainers were about a year old and starting to hurt my feet, so I hit up Sport Chek on Saturday. I feel like many people are disappointed that I didn’t get Mizunos Smile with tongue out But I love Nike for my cross-training needs.

DSCF4831

Those would be Nike In-Season TR 2 cross-trainers. They have no actual tongue, which is a little weird. But they have memory foam on the inside, which kind of makes me feel like I’m walking on clouds.

Plus the back and purple combo pretty much gets me every time Smile with tongue out

Date Night

And of course, a weekend date night is marvelous!

DSCF2296

(Eric’s more excited than he looks, promise).

I had a gift card to The Piston Broke, which is an Irish pub down the street that I’ve frequented often. We’re both fans of the place, so we decided to use it up Saturday night.

DSCF2294

To drink, I ordered a Singapore Sling. This is not a Singapore Sling (they have grenadine, so they’re bright red). I realized later that this was actually a Tom Collins – which was actually my second choice, so I didn’t care. Tastes like lemonade!

The point of the story: apparently, I really like gin-based mixed drinks. Which is interesting, because for years I thought I hated gin.

For dinner, I ordered the special of the night:

DSCF2302

Salmon with veggies and udon noodles. This was just ok – the salmon was overcooked and the dish itself didn’t have a ton of flavour.

But…Eric ordered poutine.

DSCF2305

That would be the reason why Eric loves that restaurant: waffle fries with pulled pork, maple gravy, cheese, sour cream and green onions. I definitely stole bites Smile with tongue out Delicious, although the poutine purist in me is disappointed by shredded cheese. Real poutine requires cheese curds!

So, my meal wasn’t the most impressive I’ve ever had, but at least the company was good!

Sunday

So Sunday, the weather hit 15 degrees. Umm, that is amazing, considering that is snowed early in the week. Warm weather = yogurt bowl sort of breakfast.

DSCF4828

Plain Oikos with cinnamon, banana, blueberries, Leapin’ Lemurs, and almond butter. How very Running With Spoons of me Smile with tongue out

And marvelous weather = I actually got the running itch. So I headed out for my first outdoor run since last September.

While I enjoyed it, it definitely served as an important reminder: you can’t not run long distances for almost 7 months and expect to be able to pick up right where you were again. I did 3 miles in 29:35 and that left me feeling like death. Right, running is difficult. And running 15 minutes of intervals on the treadmill is not the same as 30 minutes outside. Not.at.all.

And PS: for whatever reason I cannot get my computer import data from my Garmin. I’ve had it for almost two years so I imagine it’s past warranty, but it would be really awesome if that would fix itself.

And today shall also be marvelous: undergrad classes are finished for the semester, so that means I have today off Open-mouthed smile But, I also have two oral presentations to do this week that I haven’t even remotely starting prepping for so…it’ll be busy.

Have a good one!

<— What did you get up to this weekend?

<— Favourite dog breed (assuming you’re a dog person) I have my heart set on getting a pug. One day.

<— Ever taken a lot of time off from a particular exercise? Did it take a while to get back into it?

  1. Mmm I’m actually all about cats, I love love love them. I like dogs but cats win hands down 🙂

Those waffle fries looked to die for! My boyfriend was looking over my shoulder as I was reading and he even asked what they were.

  2. Haha omg love the dog pics. I’m a little biased since I’m in love with my yorkie 😉 I love sheltie’s though, too! I used to have one so I guess I’m a little biased again. I hate when a restaurant meal is disappointing, but you’re right, at least the company is good! I haven’t run outside in MONTHS! I think I would die.

  3. I am totally a cat person, but I met such a sweet puppy on the weekend, so at the moment I am more doggy 🙂 And Leon definitely is adorable!! Love the new Nikes!! Very pretty and working out in new shoes is just much more fun right?
PS. That ‘cheeseburger’ makes me drooooool!!! 🙂

  4. Goldendoodles!! The poodle you get to watch for the week is such a cutie, my doodle is extra shaggy like that right now too! I’m sorry but I don’t think I could do pickles on a casserole, I’l have to save those to eat cold with sandwiches.

  5. I’ve been thinking about taking off an extended period of time lately from running and I can honestly say I’m looking forward to it.It’s something I haven’t done in years and I think we can all benefit from it once in awhile! Also, date night looks like so much fun 🙂

  6. Awww I’m not usually an animal person but that dog is SO adorable <3! Way to go on getting in a run yesterday- I totally know what you mean about getting back into it after time off. Compared to a year ago, I'm running much shorter distances and I can definitely notice the difference in my stamina. Before a 5-miler would be breeze…now anything after 2 miles feels like a huge achievement! It's all relative :)!

  7. I have read about that cheeseburger casserole before and yours looks amazing, too! I definitely need to try making a vegetarian version :).

  8. Holy yum with the pickles in the casserole! I had the most amazing fried pickles this weekend, so yummy! That dog is super-cute, we have a doberman, if we get another I would love an English Bulldog. Looks like you had a fab weekend 🙂

  9. Pugs! Squee! They’re definitely adorable pups. A good friend of mine has two of them, and I can’t help but laugh every time I see them. I’m more of a big dog kind of girl though, with huskies, German shepherds, and Bernese Mountain Dogs being my jam. We actually had a BMD before, and she was one of the greatest dogs ever. I hope I can get another one when I move into a house one day.

As for the weekend… lots of birthday celebrating, good food eating, and time spent with family. It was a good one, but it went by way too fast and I don’t even really feel like the weekend happened yet!

  10. whoa undergraduate classes have ended already? seems so soon! That dog is a cutie, my dog always hated getting trimmed. She would run away whenever that word came up.

  11. Yay doggies!!!! I’m totally obsessed with every type of dog I think haha. Everyone I see I think is adorable!
I love all type of dogs.
Dang, totally feel you with disappointing meals. It sucks, but the company is what makes up for it everytime.
    Your weekend sounds great!

  12. Leon is ridiculously cute Sam, I really need a puppy right now! His curly mop of hair.. adorable! Such a sweet pic of Eric and you too 🙂

  13. Pug pug pug!! We saw an pug puppy yesterday on the trail and we both wanted to grab him and run 😉 i’m jealous of your day off! I need a nap and a free afternoon haha….weekends wear me out right now!

  14. Yesss, hooray for toy poodles 😀 Not like I’m biased or anything… Charlie is my first one but he’s definitely won me over!

  15. Omg, anything with the addition of pickles is amazing, that casserole looks bomb. I am also a little thrown off by the blasphemy that is poutine with grated cheese. Although, the Crosstrax (as we call waffle fries in Guelph) couldn’t have been a bad addition.

  16. i’m taking time off running right now because that’s what my body needs and honestly it makes me really sad so i’ll be excited to get back to it when the time is right!!

  17. Oh my God Leon is such a cutie!! And I am so jealous of your new Nike cross-trainers..I’m realizing that I really need some cross-training shoes for workouts that don’t involve running. Gotta get on that!

  18. Aww that’s so fun that you got to dog sit Leon. I really want a dog! I like Labrador retrievers, golden retrievers, and pugs. 😀

Also ugh, gin, even just the mention of it makes me feel sick. I had a pretty bad experience with it back in first year and I haven’t touched it since hahaha.

  19. Okay so what Eric ordered looks… just plain glorious. I WIsh I could order something like that, and have it be no problem at all, mentally and physically! But stealing bites is a necessity for sure, so i’m glad you did that 🙂 I hope it made up for your less than stellar meal, sorry to hear it wasn’t too great!
So that is great you were able to dog sit for Leon, what a beauty he is 🙂 I am more of a cat person, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like dogs! I would say a golden retriever, they are gorgeous, great personalities… love them!

  20. NOMNOM gimme that leapin lemur oikos bowl! At first I thought they were Reese’s Puffs…but LLs are a pretty good substitute.

Looks like such a fun weekend! Leon is a cutie! (and so are you an Eric!)
    xoxo

  21. That cheeseburger casserole is mouthwatering! I can’t wait to try it when I am craving a healthier comfort food!

  22. I always have so much to say after reading your posts! Okay, where to begin…let’s see…the PUPPY! Oh my, cuteness. You’re so lucky you had the opportunity to babysit him over the weekend. I’ve been mildly dog-obsessed my entire life (probably because we always had one living in our house), so the fact that they’re not allowed at my place in DC, makes me sad. I love being home right now, though, because it means I get to spend lots of time with the yellow lab I bought in high school. She’s the biggest sweetheart!

I’ve seen the Skinnytaste Cheeseburger Casserole on Pinterest, and I’m excited to hear that it’s just as amazing as it looks! You’re right–Hamburger Helper doesn’t stand a chance.

Poutine!! I’ve heard so much about it! It’s the national dish of Canada, right? French fries, gravy, and cheese? Someday I’ll get my bum to Ontario, and I’ll try it.

LOVE the shoes (as you already know)! Very good choice. 😀 Hope you had a wonderful Monday, and that your crazy schedule doesn’t exhaust you too much this week! ❤

  23. I need to check myself into Poutine Anonymous.
    Can’t. Get. Enough.

  24. OMG I loooooove poutine!!! It’s very difficult to find in this part of the world so I never pass it up when I see it.

That cheeseburger casserole looks awesome – I’m off to read the recipe!

  25. THERE’S the infamous poutine! Omg, YUMMMMMM! But yeah, total bummer about the lack of curds…that’s just not right! I’ve never had it before, but when I do, I want it to be as close to authentic as possible! Hey, gotta be top notch if we’re talking about losing poutine virginity here! Lol

Ha! I always think of Amanda when I mix up yogurt bowls!

Favorite dog breed: I love labs, but one day I’d really like to get a Weimaraner…which actually just looks like a skinnier version of a lab so I guess it makes sense to me! Lol

OMG, I WANT THAT CASSEROLE!!! You had me at pickles! Hahaha!
