It’s Not Lobster, But It’ll Do.

Spent some quality time with this guy this afternoon.

Oh goodness, Tom Hardy. I was definitely impressed with his portrayal of Bane (although I know next to nothing about Batman or comics so that’s probably not saying much). I think you have to be a great actor to pull off that role. His mouth (and therefore, half of his face) is completely covered, making it more difficult to show real facial expression. So he was just relying on his tone of voice and his body movement to get his emotions across – he did a great job.

And Anne Hathaway – She made an awesome Catwoman!! When I heard she had the role, I didn’t think she had the badass-ness the part requires – she seems so sweet and innocent in most of her movies! Although she did great, Michelle Pfeiffer (had to double check my spelling on that one) is still my favourite. And let’s not even bring up Halle Berry’s Catwoman…it’s hard to come up with anything good to say about that one.

Overall, amazing movie. I have the attention span of a small rodent, so I have a lot of trouble sitting through movies longer than 2 hours. Eric is terribly disappointed that I get bored during The Godfather – but I can’t help it! I usually feel the need to move around after a little while, and I get bored really easily.

However, this one definitely kept me interested despite being about 2 1/2 hours (minus two bathrooms breaks…diet Pepsi + long movie +small bladder = no bueno).

There is one other movie that I can sit through the entire 2+ hours, and that’s Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. Quite simply, Christoph Waltz is brilliant and Brad Pitt saying “Arrivederci!” cracks me up every time.

(And P.S. It is impossible to watch The Dark Rises without thinking of those affected by the Aurora shooting. My thoughts are with the victims and their families. It made the movie have a more sober tone – I could not help but shiver every time there was a scene involving gunfire).

Lunch

Although I wasn’t hungry when we got to the theatre, there was no way I was sitting through the movie without lunch. So Eric and I ran over to the food court to grab something to sneak in with us.

A foot long chicken souvlaki sub on multigrain bread from Mr. Sub – one half each.

Chicken, lettuce, tomato, green pepper, cucumber, black olives, tzatziki sauce and feta cheese.

And a diet Pepsi – movies do not seem complete without a pop, a big tub of popcorn, or both. 🙂

Whenever we end up grabbing fast food for lunch, 95% of the time it’s a sub. When you’re in a food court or what-have-you, it’s usually the healthiest option, can be altered to whatever you feel like eating that day, and decently priced. It means a lot of our dates and outings have ended up at Subway. 🙂

Dinner

A little while after we got home, it was time to throw something together for dinner. I was watching Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives on the Food Network the other day, and Guy Fieri was sampling a lobster roll and raving about how good it was. Naturally, this gave me a huge craving for a lobster roll.

Buuuut….lobster is expensive. And I’m cheap. But when at the grocery store this morning, I spotted a bag of mixed shrimp and scallops and thought it would make a good substitute.

Seafood Mock-Lobster Roll

serves 2-4, depending on how hungry you are.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 lb mixed shrimp and scallops
  • 1/4 cup cucumber and carrots, sliced thinly
  • 3 tablespoons plain greek yogurt (I used 2%)
  • 1 tablespoon mayo
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dill seed
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • rolls or sausage buns (preferably whole wheat)
  1. Sauté shrimp and scallop mix until cooked through. Place in a bowl in the fridge to cool until room temperature (it took mine about 10 minutes). Dice shrimp and scallops and return to bowl.
  2. Add all other ingredients and mix well.
  3. Scoop onto buns. Serve room temperature or cold.

I was actually really happy with how this turned out – subbing the yogurt definitely healthified the recipe a little bit, but I like to keep a little bit of mayo in the recipe to add a bit of tanginess to the recipe.

I love the dill seed in this – Seafood and dill is a match made in heaven.

Because I had a sub for lunch, I wasn’t really feeling another sandwich for dinner. So I just stuck to salad and the seafood as is. I did go back for another serving as well as some pretzels for some crunch.

Not the most filling dinner ever, so there is definitely a nighttime snack on the horizon.

I just finished watching MasterChef…anyone else a fan of that show? I don’t understand how David is still in the competition, I really don’t. I’m betting on Becky to take it home though.

Good night!

<– Seen the Dark Knight Rises yet? What did you think?

<– Have you been watching Masterchef? Who do you think has got in the bag this season?
